Start a Crochet Blog
Why Start a Crochet Blog?
The most effective method for earning a good income from your love of all things crochet is to start a crochet blog and set up various streams of revenue. All relating to crochet of course!
This is long but could very well change your life as it has mine and many others!
If you want to create a money making blog, but crochet is not your thing, you can absolutely use the same steps below for any other topic. As much fun as I have with my crochet blog, it does take some work. So it is best that you choose a topic you are passionate about. Determine what it is that you would love to write about; what you want to tell others about. You don’t need to be an expert. Just go for it!
Potential Full-Time Income!
There are many bloggers out there making tens of thousands of dollars (legit!) per month from this very same business model. Some are in finance, budgeting, organizing, lifestyle, decorating, furniture painting, crochet (yes!), and more.
This “business model” is designed to bring in multiple streams of income from a blog. And if you want to take it all the way to maximum earnings, include a crochet YouTube channel. With CrazyCoolCrochet.com, I design, create, offer free crochet patterns and explain how to sell crochet items. This drives traffic from one target audience (crocheters who want to make money from their skill and hobby). I also sell patterns on Etsy. Another revenue source.
However, the big kahuna revenue comes from affiliate partnerships (very easy to implement) and sponsorships (sponsors seek you out!). The super successful bloggers take it all a step further and teach others how to create their own money generating blogs.
Blogger Superstars
I have been following one such blogger for years (Pat Flynn). The first time I saw this blogger’s income reports about 5 years ago, he claimed to be making $40,000 A MONTH! I said, ‘What a scammer! No way!”. But I dug deeper and realized he was totally legitimate. I followed his progress as he grew into THE industry leader. (He now earns about $200,000 a month. And he’s no longer alone at the top of the blogsphere! )
Another blogger superstar I discovered after setting up my own crochet business, a fellow crafter, started just 3 years ago and her online craft blog now averages well over $100,000 A MONTH. These examples are on an OMG level, but just goes to show what is possible.
When I found that first super successful blogger I had my own blog teaching entrepreneurs how to write their own business plans (big snooze). Even though I could see how that uber-successful blogger was achieving so much success, I never followed his business model. I thought he was one in a million and there was no point even attempting what he was doing. My business plan blog never generated an income so I shut it down.
My Current Situation
Fast forward to 2019. (I’m being totally transparent here folks.) I’ve been unemployed for two and a half years and I’m entirely alone financially. I previously earned a decent income and lived well beneath my means. This has allowed me to ride out this dry spell. While surfing the web I began to see many, many bloggers following that business model that I had previously known about but ignored.
They were putting out income reports showing that they were earning tens of thousands of dollars a month. They all showed screenshots of their reports and analytics. They ALL followed that totally doable business model. [When I say “business model”, I simply mean the methods used; ad revenue, affiliate income, etc.] Most had never had a blog previously and most started earning their first thousand dollars within the first few months. All had been able to quit their jobs within a year and were making more than they had been at their traditional jobs. That got my attention! Most also had spouses that were able to quit their jobs too.
My Early Success
I came to the realization that it was time to jump in and go for it! Just six weeks after launching this crochet blog, CrazyCoolCrochet.com, I started making money and decided to go ahead and put out my first income report for month 2 so others can see that truly IS DOABLE.
I can say in all honesty that I am having the time of my life! I absolutely love what I am doing and hope to make this my new profession.
Your Future Success
This post contains affiliate links, which means I will make a commission at no extra cost to you should you click through and make a purchase.
So, back to the business model and YOU. As I was saying, the big kahuna money is with affiliates and sponsorships. You will see throughout this blog that I recommend specific blog hosting (Bluehost) and other blog-related affiliates. The commissions earned from those ‘partnerships’ are a major source of revenue. Ads are another easy income source.
If blogging is something you’ve never done before, you can absolutely still set up your own blog (keep reading below!) and start earning revenue.
I LOVE designing and creating crochet items so that part of the business model still completely satisfies my creative/artistic side. And I love to write, so that part is totally satisfied. If you want to try taking it to the next level you can follow along with me and learn how to do that too. Or just enjoy the blogging and creating for now and then you’ll know if you want to take it further.
Not an Expert? No Problem!
Please understand that you don’t need to be an expert or master or have years of experience in your niche. Anyone willing to put in the work following these methods can achieve success.
Your Blog is your Mothership
The single most important thing you can do is to start that blog now! Your blog is your mothership from which your other income streams will launch.
It’s really pretty easy once you get the hang of it and if you use the right tools.
1. Choose a Cool Name
It all starts with choosing a name (known as a domain name in the cyber world). If you’ve been kicking around a website name I would strongly, very strongly, suggest you do this now. Like today. Domain names get snatched up fast and you don’t want to miss out.
Even if you’re not ready to launch your blog just yet, you can still get that domain and hang on to it until you’re ready. The best place to get your domain name is a company called Bluehost. That’s who I use for this website.
2. Choose the Best Host
For an incredibly low $2.95 (!!) per month, you get your domain name AND web hosting. Web hosting means it’s where your blog ‘lives’ in cyberspace. You will need to pay for several months up front. In my case, within the first 6 weeks, I earned enough in affiliate commissions, ads and Etsy sales to cover my start up expenses: hosting for 36 months, the theme (discussed below) and a couple of ad-ons (email campaign, Picmonkey for Pinterest pins). IN THE FIRST 6 WKS! That was possible because I followed the business model I discuss throughout this blog (the main component is starting your own blog).
Bluehost is a highly respected hosting company used by many (most?) of the most popular websites/blogs.
(I should mention that I get a commission for referrals. It’s one of the income streams I talk about.)
Go ahead and check them out, then come on back and see the step-by-step instructions below.
This is where you enter your cool domain name.
Choose your plan here. You get quite a lot for $2.95 a month! I would recommend the Choice Plus plan because it comes with Privacy Protection and Site Backup. Those are important so for an extra $2 a month I would suggest that.
Set up your account next.
From there you’ll be taken to the payment page.
Then you’ll create a password for your account.
You’ll probably need to log in using your new account username and password so you can get started.
3. Choose a WordPress Theme
The next thing you need to do is choose your “theme”. That’s the whole look and feel of your website.
I use a theme called Magnolia. I fell in love with the look before I even knew what the name was. When I saw it was called Magnolia…well, let’s just say I knew it was meant to be. (If you’re a Chip and Joanna Gaines fan from Fixer Upper) you’ll understand.
Magnolia has it going on. A very clean, crisp look (like the whole farmhouse style that has taken off). Perfect for today’s crocheters!
If you want a similar look you’re welcome to use the same theme. You can get it here: CreativeMarket.com
***I may decide to change the theme for CrazyCoolCrochet.com in the future. After a few years with the same theme, it will need a little refresh. It will still be a gorgeous clean look and I still recommend the Magnolia theme!
More costs? Remember, you’re setting up your business, so there will be some costs involved (see #2 above). I see it as a small price to pay to be able to earn a living from home while indulging my passion. Crazy cool eh?
**When your theme is installed it might not look like the preview or example. Don’t freak out. With Magnolia you have the option to use the exact design as the example. Normally, once you get a theme you get a ‘blank’ or clean version with the options available to design it any way you choose (under the limitations of the available options with that theme). And, if you don’t like it you can always change the theme.
The next step (after you’ve obtained the WordPress theme) is to install the theme on your blog. It’s really easy, but if you prefer, you can just call Bluehost and they will gladly walk you through it.
4. Create Content
That’s it! Now you can start to make it your own with photos and content and start your income streams.
Some quick tips to get started:
In WordPress, the various sections you will be using on the Admin page are on the left side.
To write a post go to Posts (see how easy it is), choose Add New and start writing. You can add photos by clicking the Image button within the posting area or top of screen. You can choose Upload to grab a photo you have on your desktop. Those photos will then be saved in the Media section on the left side in the Library.
You will be able to choose the font size and other basic writing tools. You can make a photo or text link to another page of your blog or anywhere else. You’ll learn as you go. I promise.
With the Magnolia theme you will see at the top of the Admin page in WordPress (where we have been working from) the word Customize (you can also find Customize in the Appearance section at the left). This is super handy for customizing the theme. It allows you to see the changes as you make them and will only take effect after you hit Publish at the top. If you don’t like the changes you can just back out of that section.
Also in the Appearance section (or Customize section) you have the option to use Widgets (you will love widgets once you learn how to use them). You can add items to the sidebar (for example Recent Posts which will list as many recent posts as you choose). You can also use widgets to include ads (more on that in another post), sign up forms, and so much more.
And you can use Plugins. Plugins will become your best tools. Plugins allow you to customize your blog in more ways than I can even think of. In the Plugins area you can go to Add New and there will be a search bar. For example, if you want to remove dates from your posts (my preference) you would type ‘remove dates’ in the search bar and a bunch of plugin options will appear. I usually pick the ones with 5-star ratings and lots of reviews. Plugins do all the work of making changes to your blog so you don’t need to mess with any of the HTML techy stuff.
5. Start your Email List
Set up your email list now. Don’t make the mistake everybody else makes and save this task for later. An email list can be the be-all-and-end-all for the success of your blog. Head over to Why an Email List is a Must.
All the why and how detail is on that page. You are leaving money on the table if you don’t do this from the start.
6. Have Fun!
Ok, that’s enough for now. It seems overwhelming at first, but honestly, once you get the hang of things it can be so much fun. You can start little by little and build your money making blog as slowly or quickly as you like. I truly can say I’ve never had so much fun ‘working’.
But, first things first. Sign up with Bluehost by clicking on the graphic below. The sooner you start, the sooner you begin earning an income from your work at home business!

How to Monetize with Pinterest
Hi thanks for taking the time to check out my blog. I have a lot of work to do and content to add yet. I think I have managed to paste in the Adsense code now but time will tell! I will take your advice and increase my picture size. Any advice is much appreciated, I have no experience with any of this but crochet is my passion and I am determined to make it work! Sinead @anziswhimsicalworld
Hi Sinead,
Looks like the comments are finally working! Thank you for being so patient!
I looked over your site and a couple of things popped out at me. First, the site is difficult to navigate. The first landing page has your three main “pages”. I clicked on Blog and on that page there is no navigation bar (usually at the top). It took forever for me to figure out that the first page took me to a separate browser page.
While your posts are very interesting, the site itself is not aesthetically pleasing. You might want to look into other themes. For example, my site uses a theme called Magnolia (#3 above). You can customize it to pretty it up however you like.
Your photos are amazing but too small. These days, very large photos are a “thing”. LOL. If you study the most popular blogs they use very large photos.
Is this a self-hosted site? It must be self-hosted (no freebie WordPress.com for example) in order to monetize. It should be hosted on a platform such as Bluehost.
How long ago did you set up Adsense? It shouldn’t take too long, though I’ve heard of some that took a week to get activated.
Your work is AMAZING! I checked out your Etsy page. You should add Etsy links to your blog pages and add lots of pics on your blog pages of your work.
I hope some of this helps. Your site deserves to be seen! Please keep in touch.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me this advice. I have a lot of work to do! I use Siteground as a host and I have just applied to Adsense. Unfortunately my laptop died this week so I have had to do a lot of work on my phone, not ideal! I will take everything you have said onboard and have a revamp. I love your blog, your patterns are fantastic!
You are very welcome! Your blog is going to be very successful! And thank you for the compliment. It takes a lot of hard work to build a successful blog. But so worth it!
Let me know when you’ve gotten further along. I would love to see your progress.

Do you have a patron account for donation?
Hi Lori,
No, I don’t have a patron account. Thank you for asking though. Currently, people can “support” my efforts by subscribing to the blog and watching YouTube videos (Crazy Cool Crochet) and purchasing patterns on Etsy (CrazyCoolCrochetUS.etey.com).

Hi Sylvia, you have certainly peaked my interest. I am about to leave my job and was thinking of a way to make crochet work for me to provide a steady income. This seems like it. While I know my way around the computer and internet I am not super good at it. I think I need to do a bit more reading. For example, what does Bluhost mean when they talk about the additional domains. I do not have a website name yet, have to work hard at that to come up with a cool name or at least a name that will attract attention.
Hi Patricia,
I’m so glad you found this information helpful. I felt exactly the same way when I lost my job and stumbled upon craft and crochet blogs that were bringing in good incomes. I knew this was it for me and it really is working. It’s only a little over a year since I started and the past two months my income has tripled over the year’s average. And I’ll admit, the past 3 months I didn’t do much with the business. It was bringing in purely passive income! (I have really stepped it up now that I know for a fact what is possible.)
Additional domains are in case you want to create another site with a different name. For some people this is part of their plan or eventually becomes part of the plan. They might decide to create an off shoot of their original site.Or if they want to set up a website in an entirely different genre For example, if you create a general crochet blog and decide down the road you also want to create a niche site, say Amigurumi, you can set up an entirely separate website. That would require a separate domain. Or if you decide you want to create your own courses, you’ll need a separate domain. I got the option, through Bluehost, for additional domains just in case I want to expand my little business and branch out into something else.
Choosing a cool name that will attract attention is a great idea. But so many people get so hung up on that that it paralyzes them and they never get rolling. Hopefully you’ll find your blog name soon so you can grab it up. You’d be surprised how often your chosen names are already taken so don’t get discouraged if that happens.
Good luck to you! Please keep in touch and let me know how it’s going.

Hi Sylvia,
I came across your blog for researching on google the best sites to use to start a crochet blog. I learned how to crochet in 2016, but I never did much with it after crocheting a few items.. I learned how to do the basic stitches and a few others like Vstitch, granny stitch and easy ones like that… I don’t know how to create patterns, hopefully one day I will get good enough to do that.. I want to have a blog and make money from it with my crochet, but all I crochet is from other patterns or blankets and washcloths.. I take a lot of pictures of my crochet items because I am proud of them, I just want to have my blog bring in some revenue for me.. Do you think it’s possible I can make money from my crochet blog even if I don’t write patterns? I literally crochet all day long, plus I love to write, (I’m a self published author on Amazon).. The most I can do is crochet, take pictures of it, write about my journey with each project and talk about my favorite yarns and why I use them.. Oh, and my favorite hooks.. I’m obsessed with crochet hooks, bags, and yarn.. Lol.. .. Will that have people interested in my blog? What about blog sites? I’ve seen many people talking about WordPress.org instead of WordPress.com.. Is there a difference in revenue between the two of them? I want to make the right decision the first time.. Thank you so much for your time?
Hi Tracey,
I love your enthusiasm for the craft! And I’m so glad that you see the potential in a monetized blog.
YES, you absolutely can create a profitable blog without writing patterns. That happens to be one of my income streams but it certainly isn’t mandatory.
You have the right idea writing about your journey of creating each item and taking lots of photos. As long as you love to write you are as good as there! I love to write as well (hence the super long posts) so it makes it a pure joy to write and enjoy the actual crocheting. AND earn an income from it! The best of all crochet worlds!
You can monetize easily with Google Adsense and Amazon and any number of relevant affiliates.
WordPress.com is for super basic blogs that will not be monetized and are not intended for “business” or anything robust. They are limiting in their scope. The same is true of blog builders like Wix. You don’t “own” the website you build and cannot fully monetize.
WordPress.org allows full flexibility.
Have you seen my videos on YouTube (Crazy Cool Crochet)? I just put out a video (How I Made $5000 with a Crochet Blog). At the end of it I mention that I will be creating a course to teach others how to set up the same type of profitable blog. I’m working on it now, but it won’t be ready to launch for several more weeks. (I’m SO excited for this!)
This would be perfect for you. In the meantime, I do suggest grabbing your url (blog name) from Bluehost (using my links of course…LOL) and purchasing the hosting. You can start slowly and build it up using my course later on. I hope I’m not coming off to strongly with the sales pitch. LOL again!
Please keep in touch and let me know how it’s going.
Best,
Sylvia

Thank you so much for responding and giving me helpful tips.. I will definitely click on the link here on your site for Bluehost.. I’m also going to watch your videos on Youtube as well.. I also plan to make a Youtube channel too as soon as I get my blog up and running.. I don’t like to be on camera, it makes me feel uncomfortable looking at the camera talking.. But, I still want to do videos, just not of my face… Lol.. Maybe one day I will be bold enough to show myself.. Will your course be on Youtube or will it be a paid course that you will send out once you recieve payment? I will definitley wait for that. I want to do everything right the first time… So, if I get Bluehost, will that automatically put me with WordPress.org? I mean, my whole goal is to make money doing what I love.. Also, as I mentioned earlier, I am a self published author. I wanted to create a blog sharing little snippets of my books along with a short story maybe 3 times a week.. I wonder if that will also bring revenue in as well? I mean, as far as the ads and affiliates.. What do you think about that? I’m so excited to get started! I appreciate your help so much
I’m loving this conversation. I love seeing others share the same passion.
I think a YouTube channel is a must. People love to see videos on blogs. Goes hand in hand. So I”m going to tell you something I’ve only shared with one person…never publicly because it’s gross. LOL!
I HATE having my picture taken, much less being on video. I would hide in the restroom at school when it was picture day. And that’s when I was a cute kid, not the decrepit grandma I am today…hee hee. Anyway, I dreaded the idea of being on camera. I mean beyond dreaded! But, I knew I had to do it for the business. When I posted my first talking head video I wanted to crawl in a hole. Instead I ended up having the same nightmare every single night for two weeks. It was of me taking a poop in public, in the middle of a huge, crowded auditorium. OMG. I’m so sorry. I finally put two and two together and realized it was the video. I took it down and the nightmare stopped. But I needed to move forward with the business so after another couple of weeks I put it back up. But the nightmare never returned.
I heard another YouTuber say you just have to get used to watching yourself. You have to watch yourself over and over until you get over it. You get used to seeing yourself and you don’t panic nearly as much. I still hate being on camera but you gotta do what you gotta do.
The course will be on Teachable as a paid course (another stream of revenue; part of my original business model). It will have video (uhg) instruction along with text modules. It will be a go-at-your-own-pace course. Plus a Facebook group where we can ask questions and brainstorm.
It’s usually best to keep the focus on the main topic. Depending on what your publications are about…it may or not be such a good idea to morph it in with the crochet blog. Then again, it could be what differentiates your blog.
Yikes. This reply was almost book length!
Keep in touch.
Sylvia
Tracey,
I forgot to respond to the WordPress/Bluehost question.
WordPress is a separate company, so you get your WordPress theme and install it to Bluehost. It’s a one click deal to install. If there is any problem you just call Bluehost and a live rep handles it for you.
With the theme you can use a free one (plenty to choose from), or a paid theme (way more to choose from). You only pay for the theme once and it’s usually around $45 or so. The paid themes offer a lot more options for customization.
Thank you for your responses.. When I spoke in reference about the writing blog about my books, I meant that to be a whole separate blog.. I should be able to handle two blogs.. When I did research on that, it was said that a fiction author should definitely have a blog.. So if I need to get one, why not make money off of that one too. If it’s possible to have ads and affiliate links running on more than one blog at a time..
I used to have WordPress.com.. I probably still do so I do know how to add the themes.. Is WordPress.org basically the same as WordPress.com?
I will definitely be purchasing Bluehost this week so I can get started.. I had a name for my url, but now I’m questioning it.. I need it to stand out so I will give it a few more days to throw some different names around to see which one stands out for me..
When it comes to getting traffic to your blog, how does that work? Do you basically just promote it on your different social media channels? I think I’m going to start writing my blog posts right now, and then when my blog is up and running I can just add each post… That may actually work in my favor.. Lol.. One more question, how often should I post on my blog.. I was thinking about 3 times a day since I’m so new..
Great questions. I’m so glad you are thinking ahead and have a good grasp on what will be needed.
WP.org is not at all the same as WP.com. What I didn’t explain was that the .com platform is a hosting platform. You will need to pay for the WP.com hosting. That means you will not be on Bluehost hosting. Also, WP.com is in control of your blog. They place ads on your blog and you do not get paid anything. You are not monetizing for yourself. You can’t use plugins. Plugins are a godsend. You must have the ability to use plugins. And WP.com does not update automatically. Updates to the platform happen quite often. You would be responsible for doing that yourself. WP.org is a must for this type of blog biz.
Yes, you can have more than one blog monetized with ads and affiliates. And yes, an author should have their own website to promote their publications and keep in touch with fans. (BTW, I have also self published several books but never put them on Amazon.)
Getting traffic to your blog depends on the blog topic. For the crafting blog Pinterest and YouTube are the main traffic drivers. And then the other main social networks. Please check out my posts on driving traffic here: https://crazycoolcrochet.com/category/how-to-get-traffic/ That won’t be a clickable link so get to it from the top menu under Start a Crochet Blog.
And no, you don’t need to post several times per day. I only post once every couple of weeks (with a new pattern) or when I come up with a post topic that I can expand upon. When you first launch you want to have from 10 – 20ish posts ready to go. And honestly, I didn’t even have that much when I launched. But thereafter, once a week is plenty. This isn’t a “diary” type of blog. LOL.
When thinking of a url/name, be sure to think in terms of Google searches. What is your target typing in a search? When I chose Crazy Cool Crochet a friend asked why I didn’t go with Krazy Kool Krochet to stand out. Uhm…because nobody is going to search for krochet with a k.
I can’t wait to hear what you come up with!
Sylvia
Hi, I have read how you started a crochet blog! Its awesome that you have came this far in it! I’ve just started a crochet blog! Happydaycrochet.com , I hear so much that great content is a must. How do you turn a written pattern into a great blog post?
Hi Sara,
I’m so happy to hear you started a crochet blog! I checked it out and you’re doing great. Very nice.
Yes, great content is still what Google wants to see. Turning a pattern post into great content can be tricky. I’ve heard crocheters say they don’t want to hear a long, boring story. They just want the pattern. They don’t understand that we, as bloggers, need to add content around the pattern for SEO purposes.
For pattern posts I don’t go all out. I write a few short paragraphs to fill out the post. That said…I do write long, relevant posts about starting a crochet biz and all the pieces of the puzzle that surround this type of blog.
For bloggers that don’t want to go in that direction (teaching how to start a crochet biz/blog), you can still write great content about crochet. Here are some examples:
How to Prepare for a Craft Show: https://crazycoolcrochet.com/how-to-prepare-for-a-craft-show/
Improve Profit Margins to Make More Money https://crazycoolcrochet.com/improve-profit-margins-to-make-more-money/
You can do some research using Google Trends to see what people are looking for in the crochet world and write content from those results.
I hope this helps! Good luck with your own blog! Keep in touch.

Hi
I just stumbled over your details in Pinterest and was so interested to hear that you can make a decent income from crochet
Crochet is my passion I enjoyed teaching and creating patterns. But now I want to tap into the field of blogging and the opportunites that can bring as at the moment I am making very little income on my Crochet .
What woud you recommend as a starting point to get the crochet blogging started and avail of the opportunties that it can bring
Also could you explain more about the sponsorship opportunities
Thank yiou
Marie
Hi Marie,
I’m so glad to hear that you are ready to take serious steps to earn an income from your crochet skills. Crochet bloggers who follow the same general business model that I use with CrazyCoolCrochet.com earn quite a lot more money than crocheters who sell finished crochet product the traditional way.
Having a real passion for the craft and the ability to design and create patterns AND enjoying teaching is the perfect combination for the makings of a successful crochet blog!
I would suggest the next step is to start that blog of yours! Taking the first step of obtaining the domain (the name/url address) and hosting platform as I described in this post will get you started in the right direction. You can proceed as slowly or quickly as you choose. It takes time for the blog to gain traffic and start earning revenue so it is best to get started right away.
As for sponsorship opportunities, that can take many different forms. I can tell you that sponsors often…quite often…contact you directly with different “deals”. For newer blogs these are usually smaller requests asking you to promote their product in exchange for a small product. Truthfully, often these requests are for items unrelated to your blog topic. I always pass on those. If you are looking for yarn companies to partner with you typically need to have large traffic numbers. There are plenty of other types of opportunies, most often offered for YouTube video promotion.
You can learn much more about how to get started on this crochet blogging path here: https://crazycoolcourses.teachable.com/p/step-by-step-to-full-time-crochet-income
Please keep in touch. I would love to hear about your journey to crochet blogging.

Can this be done via cell phone too?
Hi Diane,
You can absolutely use your phone for photos and videos for a blog. However, writing posts and editing videos is much easier with a laptop or a similar pc device.
Keep in mind, most costs related to your small, online business could be tax-deductible. And as mentioned in this post, start up and ongoing costs are very minimal for a blog.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Sylvia

Hi, so I am interested in learning to make a income with my crochet but I have a couple questions. One, will I be able to do this even if I crochet but don’t create patters? Also, I’m not really that good with computers and don’t understand how creating blogs really work so will there be someone to help me learn to do all this?
Hi Venita,
I’m happy to hear you would like to earn an income from your love of crochet. There is tremendous potential with an online craft business.
Yes, you can still do this without writing patterns. You need to determine what you want your blog to be about. What would be the focus? What would be your “draw”; what will draw people to your blog and keep them coming back for more?
You might want to feature your own work with lots of photos and maybe a story to go with the project. You need content (stories or information) to be found on Google which helps with monetizing.
Or you can do post “roundups” where you feature other people’s work. For example a post featuring your favorite crochet pillows and another post featuring baskets, and so on.
You can also write posts about how to set up for craft fairs or how to sell crochet. Really anything related to crochet can become a blog post.
As for help with the technical side, my course does take you step by step to creating the blog. It is helpful that you have some experience with computers. The course does offer a 30 day full if you find that you are not able to follow along. You go at your own pace, as slowly or quickly as you want: https://crazycoolcourses.teachable.com/p/step-by-step-to-full-time-crochet-income

[…] Start a Crochet Blog […]
Hello! I know this article is 5 years old but I stumbled across it and it got my juices flowing! 😊. So I once tried starting a blog but I found it was difficult to use, (can’t remember the name, it was a while ago, blogger maybe 🤔). So could you suggest what blog website is easy to use and allows monetization? (i apologize if this question was answered and I missed it) Also, are people allowed to broadcast thier crochet projects with patterns written by others? How are you paid? Thank you! 🥰
Hi Megan,
I’m glad this article has you thinking about doing something similar.
The article does detail which blog host I recommend highly. You build your blog/website with WordPress (also from Bluehost). I find WordPress to be fairly easy to navigate. You would need to use WordPress.org (not .com) so you can monetize and fully customize it.
If you want to feature your finished crochet projects made from others’ patterns, you can do that, but you must credit the designer. Providing a link to their blog or shop would be hugely appreciated by them.
You can earn money from the ads that are placed on your blog. I use Adsense (Google) for both my blog and YouTube channel. That is another income stream. And of course pattern sales if you write patterns. You can certainly sell your finished items but that is not the most profitable way to go.
Please keep looking around my blog here for more articles about doing this yourself.
I hope this helps.
