Fits 18 x 18 inch Pillow
Materials:
Super bulky type yarn- 5 ounce skein (4) Brand used here: Lion Brand Hometown, color Ivory New York White
Crochet hook size L
Yarn needle
Gauge: 3 dc = 1” , 1 rows dc = 1”
(Repeat stitches are shown in parenthesis.)
4 Granny Squares
Ch 3, slip stitch in first chain to form ring.
Row1: Chain 5, counts as 1dc and ch2. Working in center hole, (3dc, ch 2). Repeat 2x then 2dc, slip st in 3rd ch of chain 5. Four clusters of 3dc total.
Row 2: ch3, 2dc in ch 2 space, ch2, (2dc in same ch2 space, dc in top of next dc and ea dc across, 2dc in ch 2 sp, ch2). Repeat 2x then 2dc in same ch 2 space, dc in top of next 2 dc, slip st in top ch of ch3. Four clusters of 7 dc total.
Row 3: ch3, dc in top of next 2 dc, 2dc in ch 2 space, ch2. (2dc in same ch2 space, dc in top of next dc and ea dc across, 2dc in ch2 sp, ch2). Repeat 2x then 2dc in same ch 2 space, dc in top of next 4 dc, slip st in top ch of ch3. Four clusters of 11 dc total.
Row 4: ch3, dc in top of next 4 dc, 2dc in ch 2 space, ch 2. (2dc in same ch2 space, dc in top of next dc and ea dc across, 2dc in ch2 sp, ch2). Repeat 2x then 2dc in same ch 2 space, dc in top of next 6 dc, slip st in top ch of ch3. Four clusters of 15 dc total.
Row 5: ch 3, dc in top of next 6 dc, 2dc in ch 2 space, ch 2. (2dc in same ch2 space, dc in top of next dc and ea dc across, 2dc in ch2 sp, ch2). Repeat 2x then 2dc in same ch 2 space, dc in top of next 8 dc, slip st in top ch of ch3. Four clusters of 19 dc total.
Row 6: ch 3, dc in top of next 8 dc, 2dc in ch 2 space, ch 2. (2dc in same ch2 space, dc in top of next dc and ea dc across, 2dc in ch2 sp, ch2). Repeat 2x then 2dc in same ch 2 space, dc in top of next 10 dc, slip st in top ch of ch3. Four clusters of 23 dc total. Tie off.
Joining squares:
With two squares side by side, right side up, attach along one side of each square using yarn needle. Beginning at corners, insert needle in between top of st’s, grabbing only one strand from each chain. Tie off yarn.
Join 2 more squares side by side.
Then join all 4 squares as shown.
Next, turn work right side down. Fold two corners onto themselves as shown.
Imortant: Attach sides as shown using sl st in one strand only. This forms the large X design in center of pillow!
Turn 3rd corner onto itself and join as previously instructed.
Insert pillow. Insert yarn with needle into inside (wrong side) center so knot does not show.
Join sides again as previously instructed (using only one strand per side). Tie off.
Tassels:
Using any object (I used a book aprox 9 x 5 x 1 in), wind yarn around 11 times. Slip 10” length of yarn under top of strands. Tie off tightly.
Slip strands off of book. Using another 10” length of yarn, tie tightly at top. Cut loops.Trim as needed.
Attach to corners of pillow with the two strands of yarn used to tie very top of tassel.
