Cool Crochet Color Block Pillow

Free pattern for this crazy cool crochet color block pillow cover with unique, fun fringe is below. YouTube video tutorial is also included as well as the Etsy version of the pattern.

Fits 18 x 18 inch Pillow
For other sizes adjust the beginning chain as needed.

Materials:
Worsted Weight #4 yarn- Brands used here:
Red Heart Super Saver 1 ounce, color Grey Heather
Red Heart Super Saver 10 ounces color Soft White
I Love This Yarn #4 1 ounce color Sungold
Crochet hook size H
Yarn needle
Gauge: 3 sc = 1” , 3 rows sc = 1”

Work 1 Color Block Panel:

Ch 10 with gold; attach grey and ch 45. 55 chs total

Row 1: with grey sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 43 ch’s across; in 44th ch attach gold as follows: complete 44th sc by dropping grey and grabbing gold yarn for yo and pull through 2 grey loops on hook; continue sc with gold in remaining 10 sc. 54 sc total. Ch1 turn

Row 2: With gold, sc in next 10 sc. For 11th sc (to increase gold and decrease grey) begin sc for 2 loops on hook, drop gold, pick up grey and complete sc as above. Continue grey sc across for 43 sc. 54 sc total. Ch1 turn.

Row 3: With grey, sc in next 41 sc. For 42nd sc drop grey and pick up gold as previously instructed. Continue gold sc across for 12 sc. 54 sc total. Ch1 turn.

Rows 4: With gold sc in next 12 sc. For 13th sc drop gold and pick up grey as previously instructed. Continue grey sc across for 41 sc. 54 sc total. Ch1 turn.

Rows 5 – 32: Continue in this pattern, increasing the gold sc’s by 1 on ea row while decreasing the grey sc’s by 1 on ea row. You will be forming a diagonal line as shown in main pillow photo on page 1. Always keep to 54 total sc’s.

Row 33: With grey, sc 12. On 13th sc drop grey to pick up gold. With gold sc in next 40 sc. On 41st sc, drop gold, pick up white. Cut gold yarn leaving a 3” tail to weave in at end.

Row 34: With white, sc 42. With grey sc 12.

Continue in pattern decreasing grey and increasing white until you complete the last single grey sc.

Then continue in 54 white sc’s until you complete a total of 61 rows.

Work 1 Solid Color (white) Panel:

With white ch 55.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across. 54 sc total. Ch 1 turn.
Rows 2 – 60: sc in ea sc across. 54 sc total. Ch 1 turn.
Row 61: sc in ea sc across. 54 sc total. Tie off and cut yarn.

Optional Fringe:
If you choose to add fringe, do so prior to attaching two panels.

With gold yarn, wrap around your 4 splayed fingers about 20 times, or wrap around any object aprox 4 inches wide. Cut strands of yarn at bottom. View video above for detail.

Holding 2 lengths of yarn (folded in half) with one hand, insert hook between sc’s on last gold row of panel. Grab the 2 lengths of yarn with hook, pulling through the space forming a loop large enough to pull the yarn though. Tighten slightly to form knot and secure. Repeat about every other space ending when you reach the grey.

Trim bottom of fringe as needed.

Attach Panels:

With right sides together, slip st with yarn needle along 3 sides. Turn right side out, insert pillow, sew remaining side closed. Be sure the last side is all white rows so the white seaming does not show. It will be a nearly invisible seam.
