Crochet Moss Stitch
The Moss stitch is nothing more than a single crochet, chain 1, skip the next stitch and repeat. So simple and it gives you a really beautiful weave that is not too open or not too closed. It is just right, especially for crochet garments!

Free Crochet Pullover Sweater Pattern
Size Small
Instructions for Medium, Large, X Large and 1X are in parentheses (X).
Results will vary according to yarn and personal tension used. Sizing should be considered “suggestions”. Adjust as needed.
Materials size Small:
Yarn Bee Soft Secret
Purchase equivalent yarn here:
Red 12 ounces /600 yards
Hot Pink 7 ounces / 350 yards
Crochet Hook 4.25 mm and 5 mm
Yarn needle
Scissors
Measuring Tape
Gauge: 20 sc/ch 1 = 4 inches , 18 rows = 4 inches
Dimensions Size Small: Body 18 inch width; 18 inch length from shoulder to bottom; sleeve 11 inches long
Abbreviations:
BLO = back loop only
Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Sk = skip
Sp = space
St = stitch
NOTE: Photos are shown above corresponding rows.
RIBBING (main panel)
Ch 5 (7, 9, 11, 15) with Pink yarn and smaller hook
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and ea ch. 4 sc’s total. Ch 1. Turn
Row 2: Working in BLO, sc in ea sc. 4 (6, 8, 10, 14) sc’s total. Ch 1. Turn
Row 3 – 83 (91, 99, 107, 119): Repeat Row 2.
At end of last row you are on the right side of the work. Change to Red yarn and larger hook. Ch 1. Cut off pink yarn.
You will continue working along the long edge of the ribbing following instructions for Body below.
MAIN PANEL (make 2)
Row 1: NOTE: The ribbing has ridged rows and indented rows. You will be skipping the ridged rows and working sc’s into the indented rows.
Sc in 1st sp [into the last st of the last row of ribbing]; *ch 1; sk next sp (ridged row); sc in next sp (indented row)*. Repeat from * to * to last sp. Ch 1. Enter the last sc in the last sp. 43 (47, 51, 55, 61) sc’s. Ch 2 Turn
Row 2: sc in 1st ch 1 sp; *ch 1; sc in next ch 1 sp*; repeat from * to * to last sp. Ch 1. Sc in last sp. 43 (47, 51, 55, 61) sc total. Ch 2. Turn.
Rows 3 – 64 (70, 72, 76, 84): Repeat Row 2 entering the 1st sc into the 1st ch 1 sp.
You will be on the wrong side of work on the last row. Attach Pink yarn. Cut off Red yarn.
Rows 65 (71, 73, 77, 85) – 76 (82, 88, 94, 106): Repeat Row 2. At end of last row cut off yarn.
3/4 SLEEVES (make 2)
Work in Pink yarn for ribbing and body of sleeve.
Ribbing: ch 5 (7, 9, 11, 15)
Repeat pattern as for body ribbing for 51 (57, 63, 69, 79) rows.
Body of sleeve: repeat the sc, ch 1 pattern as for main panel for 27 (30, 33, 35, 41) sc’s. Work for 44 (48, 52, 56, 64) rows.
NOTE: The sleeve was designed as a ¾ length. Adjust as preferred for a longer or shorter sleeve by adding or subtracting rows.
SEAMS
Shoulders: With wrong sides facing you, place front and back panels together.
Using yarn needle, length of yarn, and a whip st, seam from edge of shoulder toward neck for 4 inches for a wide neck opening. Adjust as preferred for narrower neck opening.
Sleeve to Body: Wrong sides facing you.Mark center of sleeve top edge. Center the sleeve edge with the shoulder seam. Use yarn needle, length of yarn and whip stitch to seam sleeve to body.
Edge and Bottom of Sleeves: Wrong sides facing you. Use yarn needle, length of yarn and whip stitch to seam side edges and bottom of sleeves.
POCKETS (make 2)
Work in pattern as for the sleeves using red yarn for ribbing and “body”. Work ribbing with a ch 4 and 3 sc’s for 11 rows. Work for 7 sc’s along the edge of ribbing. Work 9 rows for “body” of pocket. Attach to right side of front panel with yarn needle, yarn and whip stitch.
For larger sizes you may make slightly larger pockets beginning with ribbing ch 6 and 5 sc’s for 15 rows. Evenly enter sc’s and ch 1’s for pattern. Work 13 rows.
