Border
NOTE: Photos above. With reverse single crochet (crab stitch), you are working along the row backward rather than forward. Again, it is strongly recommended that you view the YouTube video for this pattern to see how to work this stitch. [As of 7/18/19 experiencing technical issues uploading the video. Please check back! You can also watch another basket video here for the same crab stitch: Crochet Rectangle Basket]
Work 1 row of reverse single crochet (crab st) working in ea sp. Sl st to join. Tie off.
Fringe:
Cut about 24 nine inch lengths of yarn. Use two strands per tassle folded in half. Working in 2nd row from the top (not counting the border row), insert hook around the back of post of a sc; pull both strands through the opening; pull up for a generous loop; with hook, pull the four strands through the loop. Gently pull on the knot to secure. Continue entering fringe, skipping 3 sc’s between tassles. Trim as needed.

Quick questions….only 1 skein of yarn is needed for the entire basket. Was there any yarn left over to make the basket a bit larger?
Hi Lydia,
Yes! There was enough left over for me to make a smaller version that I use as a pencil holder and there was still yarn left over! Of course it was a large skein (17.5 ounces).
Thank you for the question.
