This crochet wrap afghan is so versatile it can used as either a crochet wrap or a crochet afghan!

Please remember to subscribe to my YouTube channel. I would be very appreciative! Currently, this blog, CrazyCoolCrochet.com and my Esty shop CrazyCoolCrochetUS are my only sources of income. As of this writing, my YouTube channel is not yet monetized. Even though I am quite close to meeting the requirement thresholds, it will still take time to build up the income. THANK YOU so much for your support!

The yarn used for this crochet afghan (or crochet wrap) makes all the difference. Lion Brand Heartland is incredibly comfortable. Unlike many (most) #4 worsted weight (UK aran) yarns which can be scratchy and rough, Lion Brand Heartland yarn is quite soft, but sturdy. The colors also make this yarn special. Heartland yarn has a very subtle color variation that is barely noticeable but truly is different. It is not a variegated yarn; it is much more understated. It also has the tiniest bit of sheen. Gorgeous!

I’ve used this yarn for several crochet projects (I will leave links below for those) and it has proven to be a joy to work with every time. [No. This is NOT a sponsored post. This is just how much I really like this yarn!]

crochet afghan for beginners

Repeat for pattern alternating 6 rows of dark color and 8 rows of light color.
Work 6 sets of the light color and 7 sets of the dark color.
You will end with the dark color.
Tie off the dark yarn at end of last dark color set. Leave a tail to weave in at the end.

BORDER

Work a border along the short edges beginning with the light yarn.

Pick up the light yarn that should be at the end of the last dark row (you should have been carrying the yarn along the edge).
Ch 2

Work a hdc in 1st sp and ea sp evenly along the edge. At end of edge, ch 2. Turn.
Repeat the hdc pattern for a total of 8 rows. At end of last row cut and tie off light yarn.

Attach the dark yarn to work 6 rows of sc’s.
You would have worked one set of ea color for the border.
Repeat for the second edge.

FRINGE

The design calls for dense, short fringe. View video above for detailed instructions.

Cut as many 5 inch (aprox) lengths of yarn as needed to cover ea sp of last edge row.
Use two strands per tassel folded in half. Work a two strand tassel in ea sp. Gently pull on the knot to secure.

Cut fringe to about a 1 inch length.

Weave in tails as needed.
