Thrift flip an old denim jacket and show off your crochet skills! Upcycling, which I take to mean leveling up from recycling, can turn an old, tired jean jacket into something “new” again.

Something as simple as cutting off the denim sleeves and creating crochet sleeves results in a whole new look.

The denim jacket I used here was a thrift shop find that cost just $7! For this long term unemployed crocheter (me!), that was truly a great find. And it worked out perfectly for this crochet denim jacket project.

Honestly, this was easily one of the most satisfying crochet wearables I’ve done. And I’ve done a LOT of crochet wearables!

It was so fast and easy and affordable! I used readily available, inexpensive, number 5 bulky yarn.

Customize Your Jean Jacket

The really fun piece of this particular crochet project is that you can customize your jean jacket crochet sleeves to your heart’s content!

I used only two basic stitches; one stitch for the two main colors and one stitch for the accent color. You can change this out to use as many different stitches as you prefer. Using several different stitches will really make this a fun statement piece!

Crochet Denim Jacket Pattern

Or no pattern? Because this crochet denim jacket project will be worked on a different jean jacket for every person, it is impossible to provide a line by line crochet pattern. What I give you in the video tutorial below, is the basic how-to with specific instruction in the center single crochet stitch that I used.

I also provide the stitch counts and line number counts for the my example version to give basic ideas and the overall guideline to walk you through how to work out the specifics for your own customized crochet jean jacket.
