Instructions are for an 18 inch by 18 inch pillow.

For 16 x 16 follow instructions in parentheses ( ).

This pattern will not work with smaller sizes.

Materials:

Yarn: Yarn Bee; Soft Secret; color Chili Red; 1.5 skeins/450 yards

NOTE: if you choose to substitute another #4 yarn, make sure it is not a thick #4.

Substitute yarn here:

Crochet hook size F/3.75mm

Yarn needle

NOTE: Photos appear above corresponding rows

NOTE 2: Every row will have a total of 57 (45) stitches.

BOBBLE: Begin a dc for 3 loops on hook; draw through two loops (two loops remain on hook); in same sp, yo for another dc; draw through two loops (3 loops remain on hook). In same sp, yo for another dc, draw through two loops (4 loops remain on hook). In same sp, yo for another dc, draw through two loops (5 loops remain on hook). Draw through all 5 loops. Ch 1 to close bobble. You will then enter a sc in the next sp which completes the bobble that is forming on the right side of the work.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across. 57 (45) sc. Ch 1. Turn

Rows 2 – 18: (12): sc in 1st sp and ea sp across. 57 (45) sc. Ch 1. Turn  

Row 19 (13): sc in 1st 28 (22) sp’s; bobble in next sp, sc in next 28 (22) sp’s. Ch 1. Turn

Row 20 (14): sc in ea sp across. 57 sc. Ch 1. Turn. SEE NOTE BELOW

NOTE: Do not sc in the ch that locked the bobble stitches. Sc in the ch that forms above the bobble.

Row 21 (15): sc in 1st 26 (20) sp’s; *bobble in next sp, sc in next sp*; repeat from * to * for 3 total bobbles; sc in remaining sp’s. Ch 1. Turn

Row 22 (16): Repeat Row 20.

Row 23 (17): sc in 1st 24 (18) sp’s; *bobble in next sp, sc in next sp*; repeat from * to * for 5 total bobbles; sc in remaining sp’s. Ch 1. Turn

Row 24 (18): Repeat Row 20.

Row 25 (19): sc in 1st 22 (16) sp’s; *bobble in next sp, sc in next sp*; repeat from * to * for 7 total bobbles; sc in remaining sp’s. Ch 1. Turn

Row 26 (20): Repeat Row 20.

Row 27 (21): sc in 1st 20 (14) sp’s; *bobble in next sp, sc in next sp*; repeat from * to * for 9 total bobbles; sc in remaining sp’s. Ch 1. Turn

Row 46 (40): sc in 1st 10 (4) sp’s; *bobble in next sp, sc in next sp*; repeat from * to * for 9 total bobbles; sc in the next 2 sp’s; repeat from * to * for 9 total bobbles; sc in remaining sp’s. Ch 1. Turn [You will have 3 sc’s between the two sets of 9 bobbles.]

Row 47 (41): Repeat Row 20

Row 48 (42): sc in 1st 10 (4) sp’s; *bobble in next sp, sc in next sp*; repeat from * to * for 8 total bobbles; sc in the next 6 sp’s; repeat from * to * for 8 total bobbles; sc in remaining sp’s. Ch 1. Turn [You will have 7 sc’s between the two sets of 8 bobbles.]

Row 49 (43): Repeat Row 20

Row 50 (44): sc in 1st 12 (6) sp’s; *bobble in next sp, sc in next sp*; repeat from * to * for 6 total bobbles; sc in the next 10 sp’s; repeat from * to * for 6 total bobbles; sc in remaining sp’s. Ch 1. Turn [You will have 11 sc’s between the two sets of 6 bobbles.]

Row 51 (45): Repeat Row 20

Row 52 (46): sc in 1st 14 (8) sp’s; *bobble in next sp, sc in next sp*; repeat from * to * for 4 total bobbles; sc in the next 14 sp’s; repeat from * to * for 4 total bobbles; sc in remaining sp’s. Ch 1. Turn [You will have 15 sc’s between the two sets of 4 bobbles.]

Rows 53 (47) – 71 (59): sc in ea sp. 57 total sc’s. Tie off yarn.

Rows 1 – 71 (59): sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across. 57 (45) sc. Ch 1. Turn. At end of last row tie off yarn.

SEAM

With right sides together, wrong sides facing you, use yarn needle and length of yarn to whip stitch around 3 sides of pillow cover. Turn right side out. Insert pillow. Whip st remaining opening. Tie off yarn.

When I chain 57 using the recommended yarn and 3.75mm hook it is only 12 inches. Shouldn’t it be 18 inches?
